If you own a Panasonic or Sony camera you may be able to forego purchasing an expensive monitor solution as you might already have a monitor ready to go in your pocket. External monitors are a must-have for videographers, and in this article, we’ll walk you through how to connect and setup your phone as an external monitor.
A solid phone app for remote viewing as well as control is the FieldMonitor App that was recently reviewed by DSLR Video Shooter’s in this below video. You can start and stop recording, control exposure and color settings, and more. FieldMonitor costs $19.99 and can be downloaded in the Apple App Store.
Connecting your phone to your camera couldn’t be easier. First, add a Rock Solid Hot Shoe 1/4″-20 Adapter to your camera, then attach a Rock Solid LoPro Phone Mount to the adapter and insert your phone. If you have other pieces of gear you want to mount onto the top of your camera such as a microphone or light, consider using the RapidMount Accessory Extension Bar.
