Mounting a Monitor In Studio Or On Location Made Easy
To make mounting monitors even more accessible for photographers and filmmakers, Tether Tools has several products that will mount everything from monitors to iMacs, and VESA compliant to non-compliant VESA monitors. There are several reasons to mount a monitor, including but not limited to:
  • For photographers, to view images while shooting tethered even in greater detail on a larger screen than their laptop
  • OR for positioning a monitor for a client or assistant to review images during or after a shoot so they’re not hovering over your workstation
  • Create a video village using VESA and non-VESA compliant monitors, iMacs, or Cinema Displays

What is VESA?

Hole patterns on the back of your flat panel monitor follow standards created by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). These hole patterns correspond to measurements that all major display manufacturers such as Sony, Panasonic, and LG use. VESA pattern measurements are standardized to guarantee that your flat panel monitor correctly attaches to a mounting bracket. In today’s electronics market, there are a wide variety of monitors available, however a large portion of these lack VESA mounting compatibility. Due to being non-VESA compliant, these monitors cannot be mounted to common VESA stands and mounts.  These below VESA kits and adapters allow for VESA and non-VESA compliant monitors to connect to photography and film stands, tripods, grip gear and arms.

Rock Solid VESA Monitor Mounts

Mounting TVs and monitors is not new, but as a photographer, you need your mounting options to be as dynamic as your photo shoot. Therefore traditional wall and desktop mounts won’t work. You need to be able put them on rolling C-stands or tripods you already have. These three VESA Monitor Mounts are an integral part of mounting a monitor to a stand or tripod. All three require a monitor that is VESA compliant with a 75×75 or 100x100mm configuration or a monitor that is outfitted with a VESA adapter. Rock Solid VESA Studio Monitor Mount for Stands The beefiest of all three monitor mounts, the Rock Solid VESA Studio Monitor Mount for Stands holds monitors up to 80lbs (35.5kgs) and can be mounted to common C-stands and light stands utilizing the standard 5/8″(16mm) baby junior pin. It features both a portrait and landscape mounting option so you can easily rotate your monitor to fit your needs. Rock Solid VESA Adapter Plates

Certain monitors have a VESA configuration larger than 100x100mm, that’s where our three adapter plates come in. These plates convert 200×200, 400x200mm, and larger VESA configurations to the standard VESA pattern of 100x100mm to make your monitor compatible with mounts such as the Rock Solid VESA Monitor Mounts we mentioned previously in this article. Rock Solid VESA Adapter Plate 200×200 The VESA Adapter Plate 200×200 for allows for larger VESA compliant monitors to incorporate with Tether Tools Monitor Mounts (sold separately) in order to mount monitors on photography and film stands, grip gear, tripods, and arms. Rock Solid VESA Adapter Plate 400×200 The VESA Adapter Plate 400×200 for allows for larger VESA compliant monitors to incorporate with Tether Tools Monitor Mounts (sold separately) in order to mount monitors on photography and film stands, grip gear, tripods, and arms. Rock Solid VESA Adapter Plate Extensions The Rock Solid VESA Adapter Plate Extensions are designed to work with the 400x200mm and 200×200 Adapter Plates to meet larger VESA configurations for large monitors. By attaching a Rock Solid VESA Monitor Mount directly to those plates, it allows photographers and filmmakers to mount monitors to stands, grip gear, and tripods. The standard Rock Solid VESA Monitor Mounts incorporate 75x75mm and 100x100mm VESA patterns. The VESA Adapter Plate Extensions accommodates larger monitors, up to 80lbs (36kg), that extend beyond the 200x200mm and 400x200mm VESA patterns. For example, if a 400x400mm pattern is needed, use the VESA Adapter Plate Extensions in conjunction with the Rock Solid VESA Adapter Plate 200×200.

Rock Solid VESA Monitor Quick Release System

The VESA Vu Monitor Quick Release System is designed to simplify the mounting process. Rather than performing a balancing act while trying to secure your monitors, this kit comes with a separate VESA plate that is first attached to the back of your monitor and then slides on and clips into a Quick Release Locking Base that is mounted to your VESA stand and grip gear. Once clipped in, your monitor is held secure and can be tilted and rotated. Do you use your monitor in multiple locations and want a quick and easy way to connect to both a stand and desk? Add on a Rock Solid VESA Quick Release Locking Base for each additional location that you need to mount your monitor. When used with the Rock Solid VESA Quick Release System, this Locking Base provides an extra mounting base for a VESA compliant monitor. This adapter kit is designed to fit VESA 75x75mm and 100x100mm mounting holes. The back bracket can also be wall mounted (wall mounting hardware not included). Pair a Rock Solid VESA Monitor Mount (sold separately) with a Rock Solid VESA Monitor Quick Release System to mount your monitor to a stand or tripod.

Rock Solid Non-VESA Monitor Mount Adapter Arms

The Rock Solid Non-VESA Monitor Mount Adapter Arms will fit most LCD or LED monitors with a bezel height from 10.5″ to 16.25″ and overall thickness from 1″ to 2.75″, or generally, most widescreen monitors from 17″ to 27″ (fits square 13″ screens). The adapter is designed to fit any VESA monitor mount with 75x75mm or 100x100mm mounting holes, and includes all required screws and other hardware for assembly. The matte black finish blends well with the look of most monitors and matches many of our mounts, while the lightweight design will give you a nice clean setup. Tough steel and heavy duty plastic construction ensure long lasting quality and reliability to support your monitor. Thin padding is included on the inside hooks, protecting the edges of your monitor from scratching and slipping. Once you’ve attached the Rock Solid Non-VESA Monitor Mount Arms to your monitor or TV, attach to a Tether Tools VESA Monitor Mount to mount to a C-stand, lightstand, tripod, or grip gear.
